Liposuction Information
Qualifications
In general, good candidates for liposuction are:
Healthy and do not have medical conditions that impair healing
Nonsmokers
Individuals with a positive outlook and realistic expectations
Adults within 30% of their ideal weight who have firm, elastic skin and good muscle tone
Preparation
In preparing for liposuction, you may be asked to:
Get lab testing or a medical evaluation
Take certain medications or adjust your current medications
Stop smoking
Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements because they can increase bleeding and bruising
Arrange for a friend or family member to drive you to and from surgery and to stay with you the first night following surgery
Recovery
Recovery generally requires 1 month for resolution of swelling. You may be dressed with a compression garment or elastic bandage covering the treatment area(s). This is to help control swelling and compress skin to your body contours. It will take several months for swelling to fully dissipate. As it does, your new contours and enhanced self image should continue to develop.
Although infrequent, the risks and complications of liposuction include:
Contour irregularity (divot, bulge) that may be easily corrected with additional procedures
Asymmetry (unevenness between two sides)
Noticeable scarring
Unlikely Complications
Smart Lipo™
Recovery generally requires 3 months for resolution of final swelling. You may be dressed with a compression garment or elastic bandage covering the treatment area(s) to help control swelling and compress skin to your body contours. You may be sore for several days following your procedure, and your doctor may prescribe painkillers to help you manage your pain. Most people are able to return to work within a few days. As you recover you'll notice your skin may begin to tighten. This firming may continue up to 6 months after your procedure.
